This Ancient Land

This storied ancient land of your ancestors

has been your home for thousands of years

documented and authenticated and over

those years of tumult and mass migrations

your tribal forbears multiplied and life was

good interrupted throughout historical time

by the tides of conquest and occupation and

ultimately mass expulsion following revolts

where liberty and autonomous freedom in

their sovereign lands failed to secure that

recognition of entitlement in the face of 

aggravated territorial expansion. The mass

dispersal settled throughout the greater region

extending far beyond to the world at large.

Yet not all your family joined the diaspora

in preference to remaining in their ancestral

land. A land of milk and honey attracting a

motley group of people from neighbouring

lands who now clamour violently that land is

their own patrimony, as is the promise from 

on high, along with sacred symbolism and the

prophets and scriptures specific to your very

own inheritance. Interlopers whose malice is

equal to their capacity to inflict grave harm unto

death to you and yours. As for justice meted 

out in this world, there is scant, for sympathy

lies with those mewling their victimhood even

as they flail about in rage and viciously attack

your people. A people that throughout the ages

has faithfully sought its place, forever denied.
