The Terror of Deadly Militarism

The world rears  up in disbelieving anger

bellowing in the stentorian voice of group rage

its condemnation of Islamist terrorism when

Europe or countries of the Western alliance

are attacked with the murderous assault of jihad.

Fear creeps into the minds of citizens as they absorb

news of yet another assault on democracy and

human rights, and the dark night of terror has achieved

its twofold purpose. Those same agents of terror

suddenly become 'militants' when their focus sharpens

on one tiny nation, an island of democracy in a great sea

of autocratic rule; sheikdoms, kingdoms, theocracies

where the terror that reigns is mostly internal and where

Islamist violence committed in these national enclaves

is now summarily and violently extinguished. Among them

that sliver of land, an ancestral, indigenous territory

heralding the return of an ancient people to an ancient

land is ferociously and continuously attacked as an

interloper where its Judaic presence is held as an

insult to Islam, the latter-day belief lifting its precepts

from the very religion it has pledged to exterminate.
