There is magic afoot in the spring garden.
A waterfall of tiny white flowers spiral
over the Bridal Wreath spirea, the pink petals
of the Magnolia tree flutter in the breeze
a snowfall's-worth of white blooms gather
under the Jade crabapple tree and the yellow
blossoms of the flowering pea trees tease
bumbling bees intent on harvesting nectar
in competition with hummingbirds whose
iridescent green flashes against the bees' gold
in a symphony of colour, a harvest dance of
pollen and nectar the gentle collision of animal
and vegetation the garden delights in. Summer
annuals in exquisite form, texture and hue on
the other hand, feed the hungry eyes of the
gardener who selects, plants and nurtures the
garden in an assist to nature's sublime season.
