Long after winter was given its initial notice
of cancellation, ordered to evacuate the
landscape in a timely manner to enable
spring the opportunity to re-arrange the
interior design of forests, lakes and mountains
winter took its usual umbrage at ingratitude
for the splendours of downy snow and
translucent ice on display, dispatching in its
displeasure late-season storms of ice driven
by forceful winds until its reign could no
longer be sustained. Enter spring to a morose
and grey landscape, leafless and loveless where
not a leaf on forest canopies to relieve the
stark sere landscape met the eye. Day after
day of dreary rain ensued as birds sang
paeans of praise in hopes of uplifting spring's
sodden spirit. Beguiling flattery has its place
and soon early spring flowers arose on the
forest floor through the rich humus of those
generations of fallen leaves, celebrating new life!
