There have been widespread protests over the death of George Floyd (Photo: Dominic Lipinski/PA Wire)

Conundrum

The world is afire with the rejection
of racism -- oh, not generally, no -- a very
particular type of bigotry expressed as
anti-Black, a part of humanity that has
long suffered the bludgeon of prejudice
and injustice whose history is one of misery
and slavery, viewed with suspicion and
dread by others for the modern-day
reputation which many among them
have earned for civic violence and
rejection of social norms in an underworld
of gangs and guns and drugs. Preying on
their own and on others alike they evoke
lawful vigilance yet their community decries
their over-representation in prisons even
while they are over-represented in crime.
Poverty, inequality, lack of opportunity
though such conditions fail to produce
similar outcomes in other groups who
suffer the same viral indignities are the
scaffolding upon which failure is presumed
to unfold. The elite aristocracy of the Black
community looks with disdain upon the
Black flotsam and community leaders see
scant success in persuading young Black men
to assume maturity and responsibility and
women to raise their children wholesomely
in family units rather than as recruits for the
next generation of thuggish gangs. While
anti-Black racism protests now roil the world
many among them are white, many are ethnic
some whose history is more fraught with
horror than theirs, yet outraged Blacks and
their presumptive leaders sneer at all whites
as oppressors as they mount rancid accusations
of cupidity on the backs of Blacks on the Jewish
community. Now who are the flaming racists?
