Herewith, the latest selection from dusted-off published poetry and short fiction, circa 1970s vintage and beyond....
They're Religious, See
They're religious, see,
she said
so even though
she had this abortion
they took the
what do you call it?
fetus home
and gave it a burial.
Really!
An open casket too
this red shrivelled
little thing
and a priest
said prayers over it.
Sometimes I think
the church needs its head read
she laughed.
They've no money
to spare but
they're pious
want to do the
Right Thing and
the big worry now
is how they're
going to pay for the
fancy marble headstone
with the cherub
in bas-relief.
