Imperturbable Wanderer

Wanderlust is not exclusively a male-trait
prerogative we know from previous
experience when we 'lost' a priceless
companion who was suddenly struck with
an overwhelming love of life that moved
her with lightning speed to sprint through
forest trails leaving us awestruck behind
and pleading for her return, grateful when
she reappeared to spring effortlessly into a
leap bringing her into my aching arms. Now
we've two of her kind, black as she was
siblings of her breed with the male granted
the inheritance of insatiable curiosity
old enough we thought to trust them not
to wander while we gardened and they lay
in the sun until panic set in with the sudden
realization that where there were two there
now was only one and our pleading calls
to return went unanswered, bringing out the
neighbours in sympathy leading to a sudden
materialization as though there had been
no interruption in the somnolent certainty
of our lives as an happily intact family.
