Ancient tribal antipathies born of aggression
and conquest, challenges to territory and
ambition are ageless, fading yet percolating
forever in the subconscious of those for whom
history is an oral tradition of rights and wrongs
where each generation inherits a group memory
of the toxic bitterness of loss. Time and again
accusations shatter the dark silence of a bleak
vacuum regenerating grievances, promoting
active dire threats held in abeyance only to
counterbalance the other's advantages should
rhetoric rise to conflict. But mankind can
when occasion demands, sometimes soar above
and beyond vengeance when calm descends
so saner minds can grasp the consequences of
demands that cannot be met to amend the past
in cost to the present when creative diplomacy
and reason lead the rational to solve yesterday's
dilemma with today's mutuality of compromise.
