The Piety of Venomous Disdain

The Supreme Being teaches the faithful to

be kind to others, above all respect others

as you would have done to yourself. Yet

the devout, steeped in the sacred scriptures

of the religion and the Creator they so

venerate holding the sacraments beyond

question display an attitude toward others

not of their faith so spiritually corrosive it

threatens to reveal them as sanctimonious

hypocrites when they revile others' beliefs

and see nothing amiss in spitting venom

on people fixated with adoration on an

other-than-their-own Creator. Religious

polarization each claiming to represent

truth and salvation has been the scourge

of civilization since time immemorial yet

no Spirit on high has seen fit to punish

such transgressors of  the authentic word

of the Creator, no heavenly reproach

to return to guidance, instead silence taken

by the sinner to represent godly assent.
