Oh, look! There's a brand new-old president
in that noble Casa Blanca governing the
Land of the Brave and the Free where a tall fence
and barbed wire make certain the unruly mob
remains without enabling courageous lawmakers
to get on with casting ignoble aspersions
from one disgruntled party stalwart to another
as the vital machinery of government grinds on
and pen in hand the man who aspired throughout
his lengthy marking of the years before the office
would be his strikes off through executive privilege
one stinking piece of legislation after another
his predecessor left, in the time-honoured
principle of making his mark and carefully
constructing his legacy, shopworn as it is
while in the process mending fences with allies
and continental neighbours belittling their
resources the better to loot them freely in a
manner redolent of entitlements the larger
infinitely more aggressive mercantile instinct
steers the cutthroat world of friendly relations
surfacing covert underhandedness, smiling.
