Conditional Commitment

11th emergency special session of the U.N. General Assembly on Russia's invasion of Ukraine, in New York City

Imagine, the world has become a gigantic

sports arena where a world class champion

game has everyone on tenterhooks with

the crowd loathing the once-reigning world

champion of offensive tactics facing off

against an unwilling adversary chosen to

step into the ring after offending the title

holder. The crowd roars its disapproval of

the cynical power plays of the robust villain

while applauding the manoeuvres of its

adversarial opposer striving to rise above the

malevolent moves of the aggressor. Assured

of recapturing its title, thoroughly disgruntled

at its reception, the bully addresses itself to a

swift win. Delayed exasperatingly by desperate

efforts to deny that win on the part of the victim.

A sacrificial lamb to the gruelling upsmanship

game turned lethal. Is there comfort as the victim

resolutely defends itself, in knowing the crowd's

admiration is focused on this David before a

violently obdurate Goliath? With the knowledge

none among its admirers is prepared to counter

malice of the aggressor, terrified of its wrath?

Oblivious that once this conquest is won the

furtively evil eyes will then be turned on them.
