Nothing quite engenders desperation
to escape one's country of origin
as do threats, oppression, violence
human indignities, repression, and
poverty of life to impress upon the
subjected the dire need to escape the
trap of their indigent, fragile future
to seek refuge in a world rife with refugees
seeking hope elsewhere than their place
of birth and community. Tribalism
sectarian enmities and war have always
spurred people to flee their lot for hope
elsewhere to seek a redemptive future. Is
it only now in this conflicted era of ancient
renewed antipathies that those named refugees
fault their haven-found refuge installing there
the very platforms of original dispute while
from safe distance glorifying the place
left behind and finding fault with the
quality of life and purpose within the very
nurturing atmosphere of freedom found.
