The Game of Friends

How the world divides: there are those
like yourself, naive and open to the faux
blandishments of strangers, trusting when
you should not, to become an unwitting
ally in the sociopathology of victimization
simply because you are wedded to the
social custom of civility when that culture
of welcome is not universally shared though
the world wide web is and as such open to
the rapacious appetites of fraudsters confident
their stealth technique based on human traits
offer them endless gain when well handled.
The psychology of people lonely and insecure
eager for notice who succumb owes to a simple
emotional desperation craving elusive human
contact leaving them vulnerable for exploitation.
But with a success rate of astronomical numbers
among the gullible fraudsters grow careless
abandoning the slow, methodical campaign
of gaining trust to embark instead on a speed
-dialed aggression of tender care where
compliments flow as swiftly as confidences
to place the victim at ease before launching
the game's conclusion, extracting funds or
agreeing to meet, or sending intimate photos
leading to blackmail in this shadowy world
of catch-as-catch-can, dupe -- gotcha!
