Absent Hallow e'en

And did it rain? Oh yes it most
certainly did, to the value of the
Biblical account of a universal
deluge, it did. So copious the rain
that an instant within served to
drench even those dressed for the
occasion. Speaking of dressing
for the occasion, it is Hallow e'en
night, the second most exciting
event on a child's calendar and
their expectation ran high, their
eagerness to masquerade and to
conquer neighbourhood streets
with their hue and cry alerting
residents of their intent to trick
lest they not be treated fell on
deaf ears when their starry-eyed
plans of edible loot were denied
and the dark, rain-teeming streets
were absent their presence on this
most memorable of disappointments
in their young lives, a premonition
of the little-understood future.
