Et Tu, Brutus?

In the world of science and reason the tease 

'what came first, the chicken or the egg'?

tests logic. In the dimmer world of politics

the grim 'which comes first, fear or propaganda'

tests the longevity of dictatorships where

tyrants' survival antennae are sharply attuned

to what cannot be seen, heard or felt by others 

yet identified by the office holder who knows 

a palace revolt, a coup, a putsch is all too predictable 

and sooner or later a trusted cringing sycophant 

whom favour has elevated will initiate a secret 

brew swallowed by a coterie of aspirational 

survivalists willing and eager to end a long reign 

of undisputed tyranny and so it is that the 

slightest signal will alert that antenna and the 

massive, hammer-wielding arm of a tyrant 

aroused to rage will nail those traitors to the 

crucifix of yet another failed rebellion.

Teaching Biology

Tenured professor, are you? Congratulations

you've made it, achieved an academic role

that nothing on the face of this Earth can

dislodge you from, save murder and a prison

sentence. Oh wait, there have been some changes

in the Zeitgeist after all. Yes, you have all the

respected credentials required to teach biology.

But no, as long as you insist as you have done

that men cannot be women you are in a position

to endanger students whose trans identity makes

them extremely fragile to the hostility emanating

from your insistence on rigidity of natural science.

When a transwoman insists she menstruates it

is not your privilege to deny her that reality for

after all it is her lived experience. We live in

a new spirit-freeing era too long in arriving where

inclusion, diversity and equity informs us as

wholesome, nurturing adults responsible for the

well-being of those who trust our unerring judgement.

Yours has been found wanting, care to reconsider?

 

 

Coincidence of Circumstances

What a bizarre coincidence it is that the

Phoenix that grew out of the Holocaust to

produce a Jewish state has become a stealthy

unstated target of the very nations who claim

their innocence in the ghoulish plot to destroy

millions of human beings because of their

ethnic heritage long disparaged as a scourge on

humanity. Arguing it was not they -- for under

Nazi German occupation they had little choice

but to countenance the mass deportation of men

women and children to death camps dispersed

throughout Europe; not their intention to be

an instrument of the Holocaust, merely a

coincidence of circumstances that the Jew-haters

among them became willing accomplices. These

are the same nations, coincidentally that formed

a union that now wields its economic power

to finance another occupying power claiming

themselves the original inhabitants of Judaea

conspiring to annihilate Jews as of earlier times

wholeheartedly supporting the idee fixe of yet

another Jew-hating phenomenon hoping this time

they will finally complete the failed Solution.

 

 

In Celebration of Public Sex

This is the era of 'whatever'. Being a prude

which is to say finding no titillation in

witnessing human beings imitating their version

of unhinged sex is to invite the slander of

'homophobic intolerance'. Uninhibited displays

of hedonistic licentiousness is the order of the

day, not to be confined to the headspace of the

degenerate, but to be placed in full public

display as aberrations that society now openly

calls for in celebration of the diversity of the newly

advanced culture of the abnormal trouncing the

illusion of normalcy into submission. The thing 

of it is, intimacy in sex once believed to be an act

of shared love between consenting adults of

opposite genders is now a free-for-all absent the

purpose for which nature designed procreation as

an act of universal survival. Upsetting nature's divine

applecart of biological destination aside, the very

private nature of the sex act demands reverence.

I will never invite you as a spectator into my boudoir

yet the reality is that you have made yours a set piece

of theatre anywhere a crowd can gather to witness

a garishly intemperate charade of human desire.

 

 

Take Pride!

The cringeworthy quotient of their madcap

appearance reflects their ungainly morbidly

defaulted excess as a form of exalted public

entertainment, flouting all the civility

of the social contract in a clownish act of

freedom to be as you will, the stuff of most

peoples' nightmares. Garishly garbed or

entirely unclothed they strut and shout their

liberation from civil society's unspoken

rules of engagement in the social sphere 

where respect for the social weal has been

transformed to a ribald procession of form

and colour, gratuitous pantomimes of sex

untamed and set loose from the boudoirs of

the nation. But these revellers are held to be

exceptional of a class and kind now wholly

venerated through the colourful prism of

LGBTQ-2 entitlements. Taunting detractors

embracing cheering supporters they display

themselves as the degenerate, raffish spawn of

a shadowy demi monde. Appealing to the child

who knows no boundaries of decency they pose

and project themselves as a future of demented

lost souls whom reason has abandoned as they

disport gleefully while police in attendance  

smile and wave them on, society's finest.

Game, Set, Match

By any measure of civilizational mores

these men are certifiable psychopaths

posing as great leaders of other men in a

persuasion of national passion leaving the

impression of stalwart defence of a nation

as a screen to their personal ambitions entirely

revolving around their narcissistic drive to

control and dominate. Pathological liars

given to violent rhetoric and in fits of psychotic

rage bloodlessly ordering their military minions

to destroy, rape, pillage, murder in massive

paroxysms of bloodletting, impassively 

uttering ultimatums and punishing threats.

Their grim march to territorial gains leaving

behind scenes of bleak desolation as people

flee in terror of their lives. The horrors they

wreak upon their own oppressed merely a

symbol that nothing is sacred save their own

ambitions. So when two such protagonists face

one another in bitter acrimony a brief  universal

sigh in hope of mutual destruction whispers in

the atmosphere, only to be exhaled in the 

misfortune of an opportunity wasted when the

two resolve enmity and conflict in a truce.

 

 

The Lottery of Life

Life is a lottery. Existence is not a made-to-order

journey bookended by life and death but a chance

encounter with destiny whose direction can be

altered but then again dependent on circumstances

no one anticipates and grounded by the inheritance

of reasoning skills and emotional stability gained in

maturity. Living can be a comfortable exploration

of the possibilities that stream into some lives while

for others an interminable grind of misery. Offspring

nurtured or neglected, the wellspring of confidence.

Born to a historical culture of violent reprisals for

ancient injuries or in a land of plenty, security and

forbearance. To wealth or indigence. Inherent reason

and intelligence or cunning cutthroat sociopathy. A

world once vast, divided into its separate realms of

bitter clannish hostility versus dominions of patient

acceptance. Social worlds collide in a division of values

and aspirations where migrants hungering for the lives

they view through the medium of media's alluring

message acquire a transit ticket to early death or an

alternative future of disappointed struggle to access the

wealth that beguiled them, opt to achieve their dream

via an underground criminality justifying ambition.

 

Polarized Verities

The fathomless mystery of human nature

never fails to challenge the expectations of

reasonable exchanges between groups of

humanity who vastly prefer polarized verities

in their endless confrontations where each

demands the other's submission. There arise

issues of deep complex enmity that fester over

countless generations to become a culture unto

themselves. As the world looks on in fascinated

wonder at an ever-accelerating dynamic of

violence and response the rational may have

expectation that reason can prevail in the

interests of peace and justice. Yet between

two antagonists one will not be appeased in

its demands and resorts to grooming its young

as future assassins, pridefully boasting they

are the deliverers of death as willing martyrs

leaving the other to lament loss of life.

Protective measures challenge the will to kill

and by some peculiar measure of empathy

the weight of the world's concerns revolve

toward the aggressors, damning the targets

of violence as oppressors whose progenitor

Solomon, bemused, would recognize Jew-hate.

The Vast Ocean Deep

Nature does not equivocate nor does she gamble.

She leaves risks undertaken despite caution to

the reckless nature of humanity. In her cosmic

wisdom she has given dominion and command

to her trusted elements in the certain knowledge

their regulatory autonomy is such in the best

interests of this sphere shared by an infinite

number of lifeforms all of which she devoted time

and energy in design and performance, their

fathomless attributes meant to complement and

enhance life. Yet the cerebral function of humanity

is wracked by curiosity, exploration and yes

impetuosity, the brain understanding risks and

the emotions demanding them in the furtherance

of knowledge and the passion for dominance.

The results test her tolerance and on occasion her

spirit of indifference to outcomes lay waste to

the impudence of the challengers that humanity

presume themselves to be to their misfortune.

 

 

Exhausting Patience

 

When does a rational examination in a debated

topic between polarized opinions have value? It

is, after all, an opportunity for each voice to express

an assemblage of facts, their analysis based on

reality and their conclusions. For the most part

academic debates rely on scholarship requiring a

deep investigation of the merits of a topic leading to

conclusions that debates merely clarify. On social

media, on the other  hand, expressions of opinion

have a habit of suddenly popping up that directly

contest someone else's views, accelerating with 

a swiftness that identifies with the religion of 

conviction, one whose tools are rapier-sharp in

methodology. The innate reaction to respond is

unfortunate since nothing can be gained. The 

goal of the challenger is to render their target 

exhausted of responses all of which have been

summarily dismissed with an assemblage of

well-practised rejoinders citing statistics and

improbable conclusions. Reducing a debate to

a scoring game of righteous piety in claims 

that owe their generation to careful selection of 

quotes in an arena where science itself expresses

doubts and the balance of plausibility matches

your thoughts, then just shrug and drift away.

Happy Birthday!

 

Well ... just look at you! Aren't you the one

who blundered through life's curves and

dead ends taking the corners in roundabout

ways, pushing boundaries, tucking your

uncertainties into dim dark corners of your

subconscious, daring them to emerge at

risk of being disowned assigned to an alter

ego and carrying on as though the world was

there for your future. Good thing you discovered

him at an early age, good thing he overlooked

whatever couldn't be explained, good thing he

persevered and you gained perspective and a

life-companion. Think about how long it took

for you to reach yourself, eighty-three years and

now, in one fell swoop eighty-four is set to arrive

and all it took was a few hours of your time.

 

Civility

 

Your mother in all likelihood told you never 

to speak to strangers. Good cautionary advice 

for vulnerable, trusting young children.

Possibly your mother was unaware that children

are abused by family friends, even family

members in numbers that eclipse potential

threats from strangers. That was then and

this is now. You're no longer a child, no need

to shun speaking with people. Could be 

your mother forgot the obligatory role of a

parent is also to teach civility to their young.

Might be your mother was herself uncivil

the type of person that walks past another 

casually and politely greeting someone

they pass on the street. There are those who

refuse to acknowledge the presence of people

who they know live in their neighbourhood

others who labour in the same workplace.

Time you set aside your mother's caution

since you're an adult -- for deliberately ignoring

the presence of others constitutes egregiously

bad manners and you wouldn't want to be thought

of as an ill-mannered oaf, now, would you?

George Floyd's Legacy

No, Justice is not blind and nor is it always just.

It knows, as a reflection of the public weal that

within a population there are groups disadvantaged 

through their own lack of integrity and the disinterest

of those not of their kind who view themselves as

victims feeling justified in a vituperative culture 

of violence that mostly targets its own in murder

and mayhem, the spillover lapping at the edges of 

the hated general public. Black Lives Matter, as an

example, but not to those inwardly turned in self

hating snarls of violence. Spite and hatred as the

most basic of human passions is infectious. When 

a known felon in the grip of law and order resists

catapulting an arrest into manslaughter Black rage

erupts in alarmingly violent dimensions urging shame

and blame beyond their own communities for a man

has died not at the hands of his own but that of a 

White community and a cry of 'defund police' echoes

across the world where in cities scattered everywhere

councils vote down police funding and crimes

of every dimension explode in prevalence for

there are insufficient forces to apprehend the

felons and a relaxed system of justice sees fit to

release violent offenders in recognition of their

inalienable human rights -- while the cities cower.

 

 

 

PEOPLE!!!

A cynic, given enough evidence, might

conclude the world is populated by misfits

ne'er-do-wells, con artists, lunatics, purveyors

of self-harm, psychopaths, predators and creeps

not to mention the dregs of society. If you were 

not already burdened with a tendency to view any

given population as pathetic, illiterate and uncivil

signing on to a social media platform and not

exactly diligently but casually probing their

contents would convince you of the brilliant

analysis and conclusion reached by some

forgotten genius who exclaimed PEOPLE!!!

to have been concisely understating the dilemma.

 

The Restless Ghouls of Yesterday

Nature in her ineffable wisdom knows all about

the untameable passions of humanity for

after all she designed them, their specific purpose 

linked inextricably to existence itself. Yet paired 

with the autonomic response of self-defence is an 

intimate sense of justice, close cousin of survival.

The ancients knew well the dispositions of

human interaction; gregarious among their own

hostile toward all others, the risk of lethal violence 

expressing the demons of human thought and reaction 

never suppressed by the predictive warning adage  

of an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth --for

passion dominates, not reason. Punishment for crimes 

committed has become the hallmark of civilization 

but even justice carried out is no guarantee the 

offender will not reoffend. And so it is that the ultimate 

deadly offence against humanity that sought to annihilate

an entire people saw global justice exacted as the 

perpetrators cowered in shame and sought to expunge 

their crime with humility and broad reparations. 

Only the victims know the hallmarks of a resurgent drive 

of dehumanization and the emerging prospect of mass

death; their collective memory has not forgotten the 

symptoms and knows most intimately that a barrier once 

breached will inevitably be breached yet again.

Wholesomely Yours

What could possibly be more comforting

than to know that no matter how you

disport yourself, regardless of the 

manner in which you may be regarded by

the rest of the world your family will always

stand by your side. As an ego restorative there

is nothing quite like an abundance of allies

who share a significant quality that you also

are part of and as brothers are foursquare

with you. Sudan's ruler may be regarded as

a mass murderer, but there he is pledging

loyalty to you, Syria's butcher. And though

the Arab League's 22 member-states saw

fit to disown you Bashar al-Assad, blood

will always win out even if sectarian ties

separate you for you are Arab born and as

such belong to this distinguished gallery of

thugs and mass murdering states ruled by

royalty and tyrants and sheiks, military

leaders and backgrounded by the clerics

who never hesitate to issue deadly fatwas

against any who deny the world of Islam's

basic tenet of bringing peace to the world by

embarking on a jihad against the nations of

war deigned such for refusing to submit. You

Assad, will be enjoined to rejoin the Arab

League for their members have missed your

presence and in an act of magnanimity now

pledge to endorse your honoured presence.

 

The Canadian Sun King

Oozing charm, flashing his personality

and flourishing a celebrated name while

gushing glib promises he arrived like the

Messiah and the electorate responded like

filings irresistibly drawn to a powerful magnet

to make him prime minister an exalted position

vacated by a predecessor whose administration

the people tired of and his successor never

tired of denigrating though a finer man than he.

Concern for Canada's middle-class families'

welfare along with promises of felicity for

the nation would be theirs with this man at 

the helm of government, transparent and fully

accountable. As the years passed he racked up

charges of duplicity, rapped by violation of

ethics and theatrical flamboyance, shaming

the country but not himself for he smiles away

such inconveniences. His errant values swelled

in tune with his progressive environmentalism

dividing the country in oppositional diversity as

he elevated 'feminism' and the Transcommunity

to positions of consequence, damning parents as

'far-right' along with racists and envirodeniers for

questioning the woke agenda of minors declaring

for gender transition, glorifying a new era of

libertine freedom as a fundamental human right.

Children, Resourcefully Adaptable Survivors

Humanity, the most adaptable of all creation

from its primeval beginnings a single-cell

creature that time, the elements and

opportunity elevated to a land-roving

animal and evolution propelled into a

species leaving the many proto-humans

to extinction reaching far from its original

habitation in oceanic slime to forests and

jungles taming the wild and reaping the

earth of its life-giving properties. In its zeal

to conquer all finding itself civilized far

from the familiar wild, consigning the past

to a forgettable memory, adapted and adept

at building skyscrapers, flying the skies yet

succumbing to primitivism in its passion 

for survival. Adaptive now to relearning its

place in nature four children schooled in its

ways remain living proof of inherent capability

surviving unassisted in the dense embrace of an

Amazonian jungle through the knowing ways

of their indigenous roots, nature's miracle.

 

 

The Garden on Stage

First things first, starting small and slowly 

building the garden to reflect the gardeners' 

idea of balanced perfection in structure

texture, fragrance and colour - the initial result 

modest in keeping with the gardeners' inexperience 

until year after year trees in abundant variety 

and shrubs arrived to provide theatrical drama 

in seasonal display interspersed with perennials

reliantly hardy, expectantly productive 

as the beds and borders grew and expanded 

to accommodate new species while year after 

year annuals joined the panoply of leafy 

blossoming residents, the whole proclaiming

itself a regal assemblage of nature's wonders.

The garden has taken on a life of its own

parading itself, primping, a conceited and

entitled showpiece that has taken  us hostage

to its whims and demands and we obey

loathe to risk losing the splendour of a perfect

garden landscape flooding our senses.

The Beginning, The End

Do we choose our destinies or do our destinies

choose us? There is a beginning and there is

an end. He is dead now, that's the end of it.

It began with a childish fascination that became

a fetish and ultimately irresistible as an overt

powering drive somewhat like a man in the

throes of an addiction. Was he then a traitor

to his country, skilled in espionage as the

agent of an intelligence group would be to 

become a willing conspirator betraying his

nation's secrets and well paid for his services

or a helpless addict clinging to a boyhood

fantasy? Of course the ghoulish aspect of his

betrayals meant death to those whose identities

he revealed, for which no whisper of conscience

intervened as he conscientiously left his costly

"dead drops" plying the role he so admired.

 

The Ultimate War-Monger

It is to wonder how far humanity has come

from its humble beginnings when clan and tribal

competition spurred by the instinct for survival

fought to the death for possession of territory

and the scarce resources that would ensure

the continuation of life in a world of turmoil

and adaptation to an ever-evolving route to

civilization. A time when the establishment of

nations in the consolidation of territory still

focused on conquest and territorial control, a

time when even monarchs, members of the

nobility led their masses on the battlefield for

the greater glory of their cause and knowing

if they failed to appear their squads of fighting

men absent a courageous leader would absent

themselves from the battle. Leaders led to ensure

loyalty. On today's battlefields commanders

answer to a distant figure unwilling to leave his

palace to place his own life at risk,while urging

his servicemen to enact gross carnage on the enemy

to destroy and to loot, to rape and to murder.

Deriding Canada's Crown Heritage

That old adage that revenge is best served cold 

recalls the battle of the Plains of Abraham

when British and French armies settled the question

of which nation's colonial arm would gather to

its expansive collection of developing nations

the nascent country of Canada. Diplomacy had

its day in the recognition of two founding nations

under the British Crown. French resentment has

cooled but never evaporated through the centuries

since despite accommodations and pandering so

it cannot be entirely shocking that a prime minister

of French heritage appoints a Crown representative

in Canada from its Indigenous Peoples origins 

pleased to be invested as Governor-General, the

very symbol of the British Crown in Canada who

flourishes in the august celebrity and robust stipend

of the traditional role, a majestic figure whose

every whim entitles her to luxuries fit for a queen

yet who cannot find it in her Royal role to condemn

violently aggressive acts committed in defiance of

the Crown's historical accommodations with Indian

nations throughout the land; not her role, she avers

to comment on the aggravated sentiments spurning

their Royal Majesties, but as a feel-good mediator.

 

The Battleground

 

The answer to the questions come from the very 

highest authority, those who can handily quote history 

as far back as the mind can imagine for there lies 

the enduring proof of those who now in their wisdom 

shake their heads and repeat ad nauseum it's them

again. And the them in question shudder for they 

know their history all too well since it begins and 

never ends with those darkly sinister tales of blood

vermin and pestilence. It began when plagues struck 

Egypt and Jewish slaves took their freedom in an 

escape that brought them to the promised land. And 

from there under the auspices of a sole, furious God 

they conspired to rule the world, capturing disease

and then dispersing it to the unaware, poisoning wells 

to destroy tribal villages and their inhabitants

kidnapping children to drain their blood for the

matzo that signifies Egypt's loss. The Black Plague?

Jewish conspiracy cabals causing the death of millions

more than when Nazi Germany tried to favour the

world by acting as global executioner. Coronavirus?

Forget Wuhan, don't blame the Chinese, look upon

those who seeded the virus in China unbeknownst

to the Chinese. The Jews, whose kabbalah flirtation

with the occult created the Golem standing mute and

huge prepared to battle civilization to the ground.

Death's Aides

How strange are the ways of man

with his dread and fascination of

the ghastly figure that stalks all living

things, to welcome them into the

realm of Death. Nature has given

all that exists limits to their existence

when all that live must depart life.

The grim reality of death following

all that lives beyond the measure of

allotted time visits all and all make

every effort conceivable to delay that

vital date with final destiny. Strange

that those terrified of their own passage

beyond eternity choose to become keen

understudies of the Grim Reaper eagerly

tasking themselves in the destruction

of life, delivering their enemies to

Death's doorstep as collaborationists

in ridding the Earth of extraneous life.

Simple Solutions for Simple Minds

How then to account for the proven reality

that that old adage that 'we are born equal'

is fantasy not fact that elements of society

are reluctant to grasp much less give credit to.

There are others of seditious mindsets who

themselves exceedingly possessed of acumen

phrase reality otherwise, that the great majority 

of humanity posses the capacity of autonomic

existence with little reliance on the power of

authentic thought. The rare presence of great

minds sear their names and accomplishments

in memory but Da Vincis and Einsteins are

found but seldom, there are few repeats at this

level of genuine creativity. For among humanity's

racial divisions brainpower favours some and

faults others. Under the Nazi regime Jews were

forbidden entry to academia, their wholesale

presence on merit alone suffocating entry for

the intellectually dim. The solution found in

racial extermination overpoweringly excessive.

In our own enlightened society fixated now on

the virtues of diversity-equity-inclusion another

solution has been found to elevate the dim-witted

to the ranks of academic scholarship, the expedient

of bypassing merit, ruling out the superior minds

of students of Chinese, Indian and Jewish heritage

offering instead opportunities to those whose own

cultures value tribalism, opportunism and crime.

Visceral Inheritance

Human nature is not, by its very most

primitive instincts for survival where

scarcity of natural resources dominated

and their possession might guarantee 

existence, given to benevolence toward

one's fellow human. The struggle for

simple existence in competition with a

neighbour whose own focus is to acquire

the means to extend life through access

to food and shelter ensured that strife

and territorial conquest was a constant

of life wherever the human animal tended

to migrate in populating the Earth. Animus

toward another's aspirations, that of his

family unit, his tribe, his homeland has

never been resolved despite long annals

of history recording the cultivation of 

civil society and laws restricting violence

under its guarantees of justice and security

lies close to the surface of a mind equipped

to view others as scheming to challenge

an owner of his possessions. The savage

clashes between the advantaged and the

claimants for possession now viewed as

crimes which no one is entitled to pursue.

Elemental surges of rage and criminal intent

mark the psychopaths in society even while

civilized elements constrain their passions.

 

 

Verity or Whimsy?

The human animal developed under primal conditions 

of mammalian existence fecund nature made possible 

in the process procreating and increasing its presence 

from early hominid to proto-human to its final

incubational destiny as homo sapiens all the while 

the species of alternate sexes defined itself as male 

or female. A natural process whose development

extended over boundless hundreds of millennia to 

produce an animal whose brain has proven capable 

of theorizing the very development of the science 

of existence. Creative genius and the science of nature

have now been eclipsed by an emotional culture 

dismissive of the certainties of biological verities 

an enlightened view of humanity's beliefs belying

nature's sublime gifts distinguishing male from female. 

A viral seed of reality realignment now captures the minds 

of those anointing themselves to authorize the dissolution 

of all identities, sweeping them into a grab-bag of choices 

given children to imagine themselves however they may

wish, neither nor, spinning their destinies as she or he.

All Is Well

 

This has been the most felicitous of days.

The message sent us while we lay abed

this morning when morning sun probed

and filtered a beckoning finger assured us

this was no day to be wasted. We raised our

heads and the puppies stirred their response

to the invitation. Whoever claimed there is

no perfection did not as we did revel in the

beauty of a spring day whose breezes cooled

and becalmed the atmosphere fired by the

sun. The forest proudly whispered come in

won't you? and we did. Robins sang and the

whirr of transparent dragonfly-wings flecked

our vision transfixed by the emerald green of

the forest canopy, the floral panicles of the

understory dogwood, the grace of the ferns

on the forest floor, the promise in the multitude

of flowers on raspberry and blackberry canes. The

forest stream shimmered and shone in the sun

and we thanked nature for another perfect day.

The Crucible Forges the Future

 

History does not end, it leads to the future.

If proof is sought that nothing in life is

simple and the past is the gateway to the 

morrow there is a lesson to be learned that

those of limited curiosity bypass. History

begins when a sense of inflated importance

in self is affronted by refusal for there are those

convinced their mission is sacred and must be

venerated even by those who express doubt

and dismissal. Such occurred in Medina when

Judaean tribes clung to their belief eschewing

Islam, a wan version of Judaism, suffering

death or exile and slavery for their resolution.

The Arabian desert was wracked with conflict

between claimants, the House of Saud and

that of the Hashemite Kingdom. Hostilities

reduced to a simmer by colonial intervention 

solving the critical issue of territory, yet no
