Compelling, frightening, bizarrely written
quite the description. First-hand of course.
As a witness haunted by those indescribable
events you did describe them and now they
haunt the readers of your memoir. But you
survived as testament to what you saw and
heard and felt and experienced and conveyed
all of that to the world at large. They are of
course beyond comprehension, beyond the
scope of a sane mind to even contemplate.
Few of your family survived the horrors of
that searing ordeal whose monumental scope
scored victory in annals of human depravity.
It is obvious what compelled you to write and
publish attesting to the carnage of the Holocaust
but what made you think your words crafted to
produce a mind-picture of such bestial disregard
for humanity would resonate in a world where
doubt of the event is promulgated by legions of
Jew-haters? Your wish was to relieve your guilt
at survival with an intact memory victimizing you
endlessly while conveying to the world at large
depths of depraved brutality submerged in the
human heart. The message delivered, still stifles
your every thought in despair. What have you
gained, poor man, there is no deliverance.
It is only members of your own tribe who have
any interest in knowing and sharing your pain.
The perpetrators have long forgiven themselves.
