Once universally celebrated for her
uniquely perfect form and carriage
she rails now against the perfidy of nature
frivolously imposing upon her the vagaries
of old age dismissing the superb
endowments she was given not as a
gift but an entitlement in the interests of
instructing womankind what they too
could aspire to knowing they might but
never succeeding in emulating the
heights of her ornamental, natural profile.
How unjust life is to withdraw those very
physical merits that drew the attention of
an admiring world, leaving her no more
remarkable now than any other woman for
whom encroaching age dispels the image of
immortal perfection. Become a hermit she
alternates between silence and rage at the
disfigurement imposed upon her leaving
her once-sublime form so...ordinary,
