Winter Weary

Not to appear too gracelessly
unappreciative, but sometimes
too much -- much too much
of a good thing can seem too
enduring to the point where we
can no longer endure its
unrelenting presence. Oh yes,
when winter first arrives we
thrill at the pristine white
landscape transforming the
drab bareness of fall to
evanescent beauty. But beauty
too can pall when it pairs with
icy winds and incessant damp
cold to shiver our vulnerable
bones. When we've tired of
skating, skiing and sledding
snowball fights and shovelling
traffic skids and close calls
heating bills and dodgy sidewalks
winter we feel, has overstayed
its welcome and we sigh and
recommend 'return to sender'.
