Power Play
Despite common assumptions
size is often immaterial to
what materializes in the psyche
of one convinced he is a
leader, born to rise in the ranks
of those in command. Term it,
if you will, compensation for
undersized pints with grandiose
attitudes, the confidence to
give orders to others, even
those of imposing stature. Call
it the Napoleon Complex. And
our brazenly presumptuous toy
Poodle stands erect and proud
the very exemplar of size
being no barrier to the firm
belief his modest frame stands
magisterially in command, even
as he takes the leash to guide
larger dogs to their humble place
in his personal hierarchy of
undisputedly entitled control.
