Fragile Vessel
We had no reason to withhold fromopening our hearts to that little creaturethat entered our lives. How were weto know the emotional toll it woulddemand of us when we showered herwith attention, took such delight in heractions and reactions, shared our lifeand our experiences with that resolute, curious, loyal and loving sprite, thatafter twenty years of her presence wewould be left so desolate without her.We would have delayed her departureif we possibly could, but the nature ofall living things is the journey and hersapproached cessation. We do what we cannow to staunch her absence, recalling herpresence over the years that so enrichedour own. Were we of sterner stuff wecould wax philosophical but we cannot.Time, we are soothingly informed, willrelieve the anguish as we berate ourselvesfor the selfishness of wishing her return.
