Eid al-Fitr
A month of holy deprivation, fromcrescent moon, the symbol of Islam,to crescent moon, when neitherfood nor drink may pass the lips ofthe faithful, to desecrate the holy month, till sundown, sharpening the mind, urging the soul to search its depths toa finer faith through exemplary worshipand daily comportment hailed as a creditto the glory of Islam's commands, inperfect submission. Ramadan, a time forpious introspection, time to re-dedicateto a lifetime-worth of obeying the dictaof Islam. Finally, time to remember thedead, recite prayers in their memory attheir gravesides. Alas, increasingly, believers leave the land of the living, inblessed martyrdom as brothers elevate piouszeal to fulfill The Prophet's abjurationsof an enlightened pacific embrace ofotherness, shouting 'There is no God but Allah'while increasing the numbers of gravesto be visited and prayed over in dutyto Islam's urging to love one's brother.
