 Misses Congeniality

The sumptuously generous
compound floral heads of the
hydrangeas gather atop the
shrub, whispering shyly
in the blessing of a breeze
on this fiercely hot summer
day, the golden orb above
cooking the atmosphere.
They resemble white, ivory,
cream, lacy-gowned
debutantes at their very own
society ball, a huge social
event, a coming-out party
for the young and the beautiful,
the privileged and the
oh, so very nubile nymphs.
