Improving Society
Although it was my father's generation
that bore the terrrible brunt of the
Holocaust, he remained an optimist
telling me the only hope for humanity
was one world without distinction
between people, all worthy, all equal
no divisions, and I believed him. Then.
Nothing is ever simple as it might seem.
We know that, and we fail to recognize it.
The world is a complex place. Life is
complicated and human beings hardly
know themselves how to interpret their
emotions, among many so near the
surface and festering with discontent
suspicion and hatred. Well, a young man
I barely know, informed me of his clear
conviction that without religion there
would be no conflict between people
no wars, no persecution and I saw fit
to contradict him; were it possible to
eradicate religion, there remain divisive
ideologies, but far beyond that nature's
conundrum of hard-wiring of emotions
dictating peoples' actions and reactions
so neat solutions do not exist to the
ineradicable problem of hatred so dense
and deep it leads to genocidal horrors.
In a campaign to 'improve' global society.
