Generations
She is every mother's dream
child, every father's pride,
the yearning of grandparents,
this very young woman who
exudes kindness from every
living molecule of her
robust sense of her place in
the world. Other young women
breathe a sigh of relief in the
presence of this friend, for
she does not present as
competition in the arena of
sexual attraction; her physical
form is errant, her attitude too
casually modest, but a friend to
rely upon she most certainly is.
Her luminous smile of genuine
pleasure in others reveals eyes
whose depths reflect humanity
at its evasive best. How to convey
that recognition to someone
approaching adulthood from
one whose personal journey
approaches its climax? Simply
remark on her inner beauty by
appreciating her radiant smile.
Its dazzling flash in response
is more than adequate validation
the sentiment was understood.
