In Memorium : Joy and Melancholy

Benedict, my friend and child of god

have you ever known the love of a dog?

Has it been your good fortune

to cherish a creature your god

created alongside humanity?

Do you imagine  yourself

an authority in creation

advising your worldly flock

to abandon their choice of

pets as opposed to the virtue

of parenting children to

further populate this globe?

Biostatisticians at one point

painted parents as selfish for

having offspring in an overpopulated

and barely fed world community.

Now in your great good wisdom

you advise the childless to 

abandon their pets in favour of

bringing more children into this

worn and weary, afflicted world.

Benedict, dear man never having

fathered a child why do you

deprive yourself of a loyal, loving dog?

Tyrants Rule

The human instinct for self-preservation

is accompanied by a yearning for

self-respect, dignity, justice and a craving

to find a place in the future. Denied,

a fiery resentment builds a fire of resistance 

when broadly shared by a people whose 

freedom has been denied, then spontaneously 

erupts to destroy an oppressor, an event that

brings hope to those unable to muster the

fire and the might to topple tyrants.

Those who fail to blink in commiseration

at the plight of their people's slow state of

starvation of soul and body, as they direct

state treasury to the far more vital imperative

of building nuclear arsenals and hypersonic

missiles in demonstration of their power

to influence the global community how

far-seeing they are in adoption of global values

finding themselves in ample company.

Hovering

 

She is as fragile and vulnerable as a 

Little White Bird fluttering and hovering

in the maelstrom of the desperate loss

that circumstances can impose upon the 

unwary, leaving her distraught, unable to

carry on a life that has lost its grace and texture. 

So she leans heavily on the comforts that 

raw nature can provide, homeless and

dedicated to the choice fortune has left her 

to be as one with nature -- a return to her 

heritage for in her blood thrums an ancient 

past. Every morning she waits for the sun

to rise over the ocean and each night sees

it set. When interminable rain arrives she

is discomfited. Indifferent nature plays her 

role as supreme creator and mistress of

all that is, while that little bird cowers in 

nature's elements, submerged in memory

drowsily awaiting the ultimate call.

 

 

They Demand

 

Dignity. Respect. Is it too much to ask for?

Scorn and ridicule, threats and violence

not so long ago haunted the lives of tribal

members of the LGBTQ-2S+ community. And

decent people shuddered that such criminal

violence as resulted when predators sought out

gays to inflict dread fear escalated to raw brutality

and murder. Then came an epiphany to rouse

social conscience to rue the past and open

the future to normalcy in society for all and

sundry expressions of being. Finally came a

shift when the victims remained aggrieved

at their past forced exile from the social contract

with demands for reparations inviting all to

repent and celebrate with those freed from

abuse in annual raucously colourful parades

of unabashed public sexuality. Now it is those

who represent the vast majority whose tribe

is natal biology who must cower and admit

gross insensitivity to the pain and anguish

suffered by the hidden, demanding just due in

deference; their absolute right to inclusion

equality and diversity along with personal

addresses in reflection of gender neutrality. A

transition from victim to vituperative bully with

their bitter challenge that all must be woke.

COVID Conundrum

Two thirds of the restive population anywhere

in the world where COVID has rampaged

remains compliant while the remainder is defiant

the former convinced on unassailable evidence

that this invisible predator is fully capable of 

diminishing opportunities for survival normally 

taken for granted -- while the latter scoffs at the 

timidity of their peers over the presence of yet

another cold virus that has enabled governments 

to ride rough-shod over civil rights. Global deaths

of millions, hospitals stretched beyond their limits

endless cycles of shut-downs, crumbling commerce 

drowning state economies in emergency pledges 

of financial rescue, figments all of over-active 

imaginations, ploys by governments to wrest control 

over the placid governed. Protests and riots 

mounted by the vociferous few against the fearful 

many as COVID-wrought chaos reigns supreme 

in a global challenge: nature vs human nature. 

Angel of Death

Coming to a country near to you

if your country has not yet authorized 

voluntary death accommodated by the 

very government whom the people

democratically vote into office for 

the specific purpose of administering 

national affairs to the best advantage

of its residents. So as a courtesy to the 

democratic ideal -- full freedom to dispose 

of an unwanted life. This time not the 

lives of the socially dispossessed but 

one's own. Nations once so very willing

 to accommodate its Jews to the Nazi 

killing machine now see fit to surrender 

lives at whim or will to Death's omnivorous

never-satiated maw. In polite social language

it is named medical assistance in dying.

How quaint: say 'MAID' and you have it.

Socially accepted as a release from life

voluntarily unlike the involuntary mass

murder of a people society had no use for.

Josef Mengele would be so pleased.

Pimp To Princes

In the twilight world of the demi-monde he moved 

in elite circles entrusted with the intimate secrets 

of those high-flying politicians, aristocrats and 

members of prestigious professions for whom he was 

their trusted pimp. As a procurer of children for 

the sexual gratification of society's nobility he 

paid the ultimate price in the shame of reputational 

loss and when his kingdom crumbled with those 

formerly fawningly addictive clients abandoning him

he sat in the ruins of his carefully cultivated circle 

of perverts; gone his position of authority and trust 

in a widening chasm of avoidance. Now his lover 

and obliging helpmeet found guilty to popular 

acclaim of aiding and abetting his predatory

service to illicit, underage sex for aging Lotharios

will be incarcerated just as he was before liberating 

himself in death. As for princes and presidents 

paedophiles all, they remain at large, untouchable.
