REM 

(Random Excess Memories)

 A mind feverish in its
recollections, surfacing
mysteriously from long
forgotten depths of memory
so random the wonder is
what stirs them to the surface?
They appear, perplex, then
fade as suddenly, leaving
tender wisps of what might
have been, like dreams that
play out as real life scenarios
more nightmare than dream,
leaving us hanging in a
suspense of longing, dread
and hope, glad that they are
but arcane manifestations
of a mind that does not rest,
the body safely comforted
abed, oblivious, without the
mind prodding viscera, limbs,
to react, defer, succumb.
