Gusto, 1st Issue, 1981

Herewith, the latest selection from dusted-off published poetry and short fiction, circa 1970s vintage and beyond....

Of This Day

The sun shines
still winter-white
but moving into
the vernal equinox
and warming us
this day as
people busy with
myriad preoccupations
rush headlong
into the afternoon.

Green shoots
poke through the
rich muck of the ground
loosening up after
abandonment of snow and ice.
A mother
sauntering the street
with her infant
stops to observe

to imbue
his fresh face
with the knowledge
of awakening.

c. 1981 Rita Rosenfeld
published in Gusto, a Literary/Poetry Journal
