The Swift

What more fitting name
for a wild, tumbling
mountain stream than Swift
for swiftly strenuous it is
whirling madly around
boulders long settled on
the streambed, erratics of
granite calved from the
mountainside, the
irresistible, timeless force
of the stream carving
away portions of the
granite slope, now sending
up spuming white foam
as it courses relentlessly
downstream, swelling
gaining momentum and
raising its voice in a
triumph of gravity eroding
the impermeability of the
mountain's granite shield
yielding to its power.
