The Timeless Forest

The Forest bakes and sizzles
in the afternoon heat, and
dandelions melt into heaps
of spilled gold while a hot
breeze carries the scent of
dogwood and honeysuckle
through stands of spruce and
pine where birds are nesting
and a cardinal trills rhapsodically.
Wildflowers proliferate in late
spring in an array of pinks and
golds, with white predominating
in strawberry and blackberry
blossoms, permeating and
accenting the bright green
screen of deciduous trees
recently leafed in a visual
bounty of beauty. This is the
time for buttercups and bees,
violets and dragonflies
timelessly repeating existence.
