In Perpetuity

She stands regally silent, an
elegant allegory of nature's devotion
to the existence of beauty and
the beauty of existence. It was
nature who devised the game she
contrived to convince the credulous
that existence is time-mandated
and finite. Yet the ancients
clearly saw past her impetuous
whims and in their philosophical
precocity understood nature's
seasons, the rigours and the
endlessly repeated rebirths were
manifestly circuitous and
timeless; a prank that nature
never tires of, and one that gifts
her creatures with suspense, tension
hope and resurrection. The very
microcosm of a garden in its
vain conceit as apt a metaphor as
any nature might use to illustrate
her mysterious, glorious dedication
to existence and life everlasting.
