Cranefly Dalliance

Herewith, the latest selection from dusted-off published poetry and short fiction, circa 1970s vintage and beyond....

Cranefly Dalliance
Two crane flies.
All angles
softened slightly
by wings transparent
as their preoccupation.
They sit glued
in a transport
of mindless lust.

All day they've
ornamented my
kitchen window
endlessly copulating.
(Only a cranefly
might consider
another cranefly
worth a second look.
No sensuous curves.
All angles and thrust.)

Responding to
the elemental urge.
Mindless gluttony.
There they sit
in mute agony
pantomiming life.
