Carnal Rampage

They are blind with lust
for one another
utterly shameless they both are
as though oblivious of the
presence of others aware
of their raw ambition
in courting each other
winking and blinking
coy and coquettish
bold and daring
swooping in for the finale
circling one another
rapaciously hunting
as though decreed by
nature's blueprint to live
for nothing, nothing at all
but to copulate. Spring
admittedly, has that effect
on nature's creatures
they are programmed to
seek one another out
preen and beckon
then fall upon one another
in a primal paroxysm of
orgasmic pleasure. And if
these two indulge as they do
well they are forgiven.
As butterflies they live
their brief lives and wear their
opportunities at presentation.

Avian Spring

The soft haunting melancholy of the
owl's call sifts through the spring night
from the forest to my home and I know
it has returned to nest nearby, a ritual of
spring's renewal blueprint. In the morning
the song of the cardinal sweetens my
awakening, drifting through my drowsy
head informing me that dawn has broken.
Now the robins that peck disconsolately
on the fall-ripened, winter-shrivelled
berries of the Sargenti crab can find
infinitely more suitable grubs in the
warming soil of my garden. A pair of
plump song sparrows disport themselves
among the seeds and breadcrumbs on
my porch, their gratitude evinced in a
transporting lilt of musical perfection.
When they leave, the crows will appear
nervously aware their presence displeases
most, but not me, for their polite caution
bespeaks uncertainty yet entitlement. In
the forest the pileated woodpecker gets
on with the vital task of identifying those
trees hosting guests inimical to the
existence of their hosts, and nuthatches
and chickadees flit about the still-bare
branches of the forest's deciduous trees
the whistle of a hawk coasting on the
wind above the tree canopy, distracting
and warning the tiny furred creatures
below. This evening, when I wend my
weary way to bed I'll glance outside to
see the nighthawk settled down to sleep.

Romance vs Reality

Although there is an undeniable
element of enchantment involved
love everlasting is not a magic show
or the irresistibility of sexual congress
with someone whose attraction to you
and yours to them is singular, but the
devotion each extends to ensuring
the other is fully aware how much
their presence illuminates your life.
It is the yearning to never part to live
together in the harmony of authentic
and generous reciprocation, an exercise
not of will but of want. Where there
exist no issues that cannot be solved
with a minimum of effort and where
the rhythm of life is one of joyous
contentment and occasional eruptions
of tension for though yours is a
wholly symbiotic brace there is no
lack of opportunity to embrace in
those exchanges of bodily warmth
and subconscious exaltation in the
spirit of giving and receiving, where
compromise and emotion each have
their own relief in a bond from which
there is absolutely no release whatever.

It Is

Infinite, timeless, a black
desolation of space and distance
beyond knowing, where vast
energy and matter meet and
formations of gas swirl
in constellations of grace
and beauty as light and
colour and sound describe
the universe expanding
into a space that once was
not there, nor the matter
until nothing became
everything and the primal
elements melded and
divided on their way to
becoming the entire
outburst swelling
expanding the emptiness
filling exponentially as
vacuums are designed
in a timed and relentless
architecture transforming
into a reality of evolution
whose essence is variety
the distance receding until
the dream of existence fades
back into its original state
absent of being, finis.

Once Upon a Future

Once their remote savage jungle villages
were raided by Arab slave traders and
those who survived the long manacled
march to their embarkation point off the
African continent and somehow failed
to die of disease, starvation, privation
and suffocation on the endless voyage to
the civilized world existing on continents
beyond their knowledge of existence
their proto-humanity displayed at markets
sold to the highest bidder to become
the property of those whose skin colour
was so dazzlingly preferential to their own
their enslavement wrote their destiny.
But the vast continent of Africa was not
voided of its population in the cradle of
humanity robbed of its innocence and
the remainder became familiar with another
scourge, that  of colonial rule with superior
beings dictating their lives in their very
own homes. Now those homes have been
long administered by those whose physical
appearance mirrors their own and their
condition of existence is that of tribal
conflict, sectarian violence, droughts and
famine, and those once gathered as slaves
now hurl themselves toward the very
continents once so unfamiliar, anxious to
leave their homes in Africa, as desperate
migrants seeking haven anywhere else
from the despots and tyrants, warmongers
and theocracies that make life untenable.
Strange, is it not that now they are seen
as equals they are no longer welcome....

As The World Turns

Once a great and mighty empire whose
grace and culture, riches and renown was
legendary, that empire suffered the fate of all
such that once existed falling into steep decline
threatening to become an end-note in history.
But history has not finished with that empire
and it has once again risen this time with
a reputation less savoury, but as a powerhouse
of determined entrepreneurial and marketing
skills it is not its culture, its arts and science
but rather technology in all its vast and varied
manifestations in which it now leads the world.
A century ago the concern was of a 'yellow
peril', with millions of starving Chinese
peasants converging beyond their continent
to invade those of the West when suddenly
an ideological revolutionary cabal transformed
that vast nation into a bulwark of opportunity
for some and a death knell for millions who
failed to conform. That invasion of the afflicted
never materialized until another paroxysm of
transformation to meld that creed with another
led to a vast exodus of the curious and well
endowed as tourists world-wide while their
government was busy ushering in a new world
order with China leading the way in production
and pricing, trade and monopolization of
industry and growing wealth. The invasion
that failed now overtaken by Chinese ownership
of giant corporations at home and abroad taking
possession of vital initiatives and materials
investing itself in all global spheres of influence
production and capital leaping into the future
as the monolithic arbiter and owner of all
that matters in the material world finally
realizing the import of unstoppable ambition.

Spring Renascence

The enchantment of it all, the expectations
the excitement, the preparations feverishly
undertaken. Imagine the care taken with
the lighting, instructions that the ambient
temperature be just right, the currents of
air hovering in staged introductions on
the very edge of perfection. And then
one by one the major actors in this
eternal performance of engrossing
importance to the vast audience as the
majesty and brilliance of the first of the
many debutante balls blaze into action.
This is a stage whose proportions are all
encompassing whose breadth and depth
incorporates a vast geological enterprise
and whose existential quotient vastly
outperforms its entertainment value in
beauty and wonder. Act one showcases a
sere landscape void of living greens and
an overhead sky of brooding rainfalls dark
and drenching. As the acts proceed each
highlighted presence takes its bow of
acknowledgement as flora and fauna of
spring resume their place in that order
that nature has designed and pampers.
