The Incidental Confidante
Far from home, a temporary
sojourn through a foreign land,
exposed to hordes of others
for whom the space is tamely
familiar and others from elsewhere
finding their way about, like us.
As cordially friendly are the locals,
it is in chance encounters with
those others among whom true
empathy and interest we arouse
in one another, we become familiar.
So that in a brief, the very briefest
space of time and place together
we live a life's acquaintanceship,
awarding one another the most
intimate of sketches of our lives
and discoveries, bonding in an
affectionate web of friendship
casually extended, heartfully gained.
